Wolverines split at First Bank Richmond Classic

RICHMOND, Ind. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team returned to action this past weekend with a pair of games against Indiana Southeast (11/5) and Indiana-East (11/6), as apart of the First Bank Richmond Classic in Richmond, Ind.

On Friday, the Wolverines would find themselves up 11 points at the half and would maintain their advantage, despite a fourth-quarter push from the Grenadiers, securing the 83-71 victory.

Leading UM-Dearborn was Maya Barakat with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Mariah Taylor would add a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. India Grissom and Ro'Zhane Wells would add 16 points and 9 points, respectively 

Indiana Southeast was led by Karly Sweeney (16 points, seven steals) and Brynna Blackburn (15 points, seven rebounds).

On Saturday, the Wolverines looked to use the previous night's momentum against the Indiana-East Red Wolves, however the UM-Dearborn offense would stall in the first half. The Red Wolves would take a 16 point lead into the break and never look back, defeating the Wolverines 90-59.

The two-game split moves UM-Dearborn to 1-4 overall on the season.

Leading the Wolverines was Cydney Williams with 10 points and eights rebounds, while Grissom and and Wells would add 10 points and nine points, respectively. 

IU-East was led by Addie Brown and Kami McEldowney, both recording a game-high 21 points. 

UM-Dearborn opens up the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season with its home-opener against the Rochester University Warriors at 5:30pm Wednesday at Henry Ford College in Dearborn, Mich.
