DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team had three individuals highlighted on the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Volleyball All-Conference Awards. Kielee Tondryk highlighted the release with a First Team All-Conference award. Kenzie Mertz and Regan Rose received Second Team honors, while Nalani Schanz was named to the Champion of Character team.
Tondryk received First Team Honors after leading the Wolverines in kills, kills/set, kill percentage, points, and points/set. Tondryk set career highs in almost every offensive category, pulling the curtain on an impressive five years dawning the Maize & Blue. Tondryk's first team recognition will make her eligible for All-Region honors, which will be released later this year.
Mertz was snubbed of First Team All-Conference honors after leading the conference in digs/set. Mertz had nine games where she tallied 25 or more digs and had an impressive streak of seven games to close the season where she recorded 20 or more digs. Mertz had just 24 reception errors in 491 chances, putting her in rare territory amongst conference Liberos. Mertz was also a five-time WHAC Defender of the Week award recipient this season.
Wrapping up All-Conference awards was Rose with Second Team honors. Rose finished the season with 1,053 assists and a career-high in assists/set. Rose was also a force at the net, with a career-high in blocks/set. Rose totaled 10 double-doubles in her final season at UM-Dearborn.
Freshman setter Nalani Schanz was named to the WHAC Champions of Character Team, awarded to a member of each team who embodies the five core character values that the NAIA embraces. Seven Wolverines were also named to the WHAC All-Academic team, awarded to sophomores or above in good academic standing and whose cumulative GPA is 3.25 or higher. The student-athletes must be in attendance for one full year at a nominating school. The entire list of All-Academic winners can be found below.
