CANTON, Mich.-- The No.20 University of Michigan-Dearborn (10-6-2, 9-4-0) men's ice hockey team needed a late goal from Chance Mathews to take down No.24 Concordia (Mich.) (11-10-1, 6-7-0) 3-2 on Friday (Jan. 6) at the Arctic Edge.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, Joey Cullinan found the equalizer for the Wolverines after scoring just 90 seconds into the second period. Dakota Potter and Bailey Byrd dished out assists on the Wolverines' opening goal. After CUAA retook the lead 10 minutes later, Brendan West tied up the contest after scoring an unassisted goal with 6:25 left in the period.
With 19 minutes expired in the third, neither team would break the 2-2 deadlock. However, with time running down, Max Hartwell and West assisted Mathews on the game-winning goal to shock the Cardinals 3-2 on the road.
