Men's Basketball Defeats Aquinas

Dearborn, MI - The men's basketball team finished their season with a 79-69 win over the visiting Aquinas College Saints. Michigan-Dearborn (11-19, 6-16) held a steady lead throughout the first half and then built it up to 14 points with just under five minutes left in the first half. Aquinas (20-10, 16-6) cut the lead to six points, but free throws by sophomore Ali Farhat and a three-pointer by freshman Alex Hagel gave the Wolverines a 36-26 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Aquinas pulled within two points with ten minutes left, but Michigan-Dearborn responded well going on a 13-3 run fueled by sophomore Jason Penn who had six points during the run. Aquinas pulled within eight points late, but solid free throw shooting by sophomore Ali Farhat sealed the win for the Wolverines. Farhat had a season high 31 points including going 6 for 7 from the free throw line. Penn had 17 points and 7 rebounds in the game. It was the final collegiate game for two Michigan-Dearborn players. Anthony Barley and Paul Standtke played in the their final games. Barley had 8 points and 3 assists while Standtke added 2 points and 6 rebounds.

The men's basketball team was led this season by junior Marcus Williams who averaged 15.8 points per game. Farhat averaged 13.9 points per game. Standtke led the team in rebounds averaging 6.7 per game.
