Farhat's 30 Points Leads Men's Basketball to Overtime Victory

Ann Arbor, MI - The men's basketball team traveled to Ann Arbor to take on the Concordia University Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. Concordia (12-16, 8-12) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but Michigan-Dearborn (15-13, 10-10) would tie the score just minutes later fueled by sophomore Ali Farhat's four points. The Cardinals would maintain the lead throughout much of the first half, but the Wolverines would continue to work hard and tie the game with just over seven minutes remaining in tne half. Concordia would end the half on a 6-1 run to take a 35-30 lead into the half.

Concordia would extend the lead to 10 points at three different points in time in the second half. The final time the Cardinals led by 10 points was with 12:08 left in the game. Michigan-Dearborn, powered by a Marcus Williams three-pointer, would go on an 11-1 run to tie the game. The two teams would exchange baskets and the lead several times in the last half of the fourth quarter. Williams scored a late basket giving the Wolverines a two point lead. A Michigan-Dearborn foul would give Concordia two free throws with 41 seconds left. Both free throws were made, and the Wolverines had two shots for the win late, but freshman Xavier Crofford's three-point attempts would not go in, and the game went to overtime.

Williams started overtime by making one of two free throws, and then Farhat added a two-point basket giving Michigan-Dearborn a three point lead. Concordia would score six straight points and take a three point lead. Crofford would make a basket, get fouled, and make the free throw to tie the game for the thirteenth time. With the game tied, Williams would get fouled with 26 seconds left. He would make one of two free throws giving the Wolverines a one point lead. Concordia would miss a three-pointer and Crofford would grab the rebound and get fouled. He made both free throws, and Concordia's last second three-point attempt would not fall, and Michigan-Dearborn would win 80-77.

Farhat led all scorers with 30 points while Crofford and Williams each had 19 points. Senior Paul Standtke grabbed 10 rebounds in the win. The men's basketball team will make the short trip to Southfield on Wednesday to take on Lawrence Tech at 8:00pm.
