Men's Basketball Gets Back to Winning Ways

Dearborn, MI - The men's basketball team got back on track Monday night, winning their WHAC opener 101-88 over the Marygrove College Mustangs. Michigan-Dearborn (4-2, 1-0) shot the ball extremely well shooting 52% for the game and outrebounding Marygrove (1-5, 0-1) 51-38. The Wolverines never trailed in the game and had a 21 point lead at one time during the second half.

The game started out well for Michigan-Dearborn who jumped out to an early 14-5 lead, but Marygrove closed the gap to three points just past the halffway mark of the first half. The Wolverines would end the first half on a 28-18 run to take a 52-39 lead at halftime.

The start of the second half saw the two teams exchange baskets for the first part of the half, but with the score 67-58, Michigan-Dearborn would take over the game. A 9-0 run, which featured four different scorers, sparked the Wolverines to open up a 76-58 lead with just over eight minutes remaining. The team continued to score eventually building a 21 point lead. Marygrove would continue to play hard cutting the lead to 12 points with one minute remaining, but strong free throw shooting by the Wolverines gave them the 101-88 win.

Junior Marcus Williams led Michigan-Dearborn with 31 points while sophomore Jason Penn earned his first double-double of the season scoring 12 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. The men's basketball team will next host the 3rd ranked Davenport University Panthers on Wednesday night at 7:30pm.
