The Journey is Not Over Yet

Dearborn, MI- Last night, four young men; Jamiel Strickland, Khalil Beidoun, Brandon Kennedy, Balazs Juhasz, and their team played their last home game of the season. Michigan was not saddened by this moment, but found it as a moment to make a memory that will last a life time. The Wolverines never gave up. They kept fighting to take the 71-53 conference win against Indiana Tech. As a team the Wolverines shot over 50% from the field. Not only did Michigan out shoot the Warriors but they also out rebound them. Every individual from the Wolverines found time on the court and chipped in some points. Strickland led the team with 11pts as Paul Standtke, Brandon Cole and Jason each contributed 10 pts. Last night's conference win over Indiana Tech gave the Wolverines a 7-14 conference record and are now in a three-way tie with Siena Heights and Indiana Tech.

After a few missed shots taken by the Wolverines, the Warriors made a defensive rebound, set up a play and made a shot from behind the arc to put the first points on the board. Nearly five minutes into the game Strickland steals the ball and makes a shot to give the Wolverines their first lead of the game. The game continued to go back and forth which amplified the excitement of the game. Up until Kennedy made a three point shot with 7:16 left in the game to give the Wolverines a 4pt lead, Michigan struggled to take the lead and keep it. Kennedy's shot went in sending the Wolverines on a 12-0 run. Michigan ended the first half with a 33-20 lead. As a team the Wolverines shot 50% from the field and 85% from the free throw line. Michigan's defense generated seven turnovers and three steals from the Warriors. At the end of the half Michigan's leaders were Strickland with 7pts, Penn and Anthony Barley each with 6 pts.

When Michigan returned from halftime, they were determined to continue to play hard and leave the Warriors in their dust. After a short 3 minutes of play the Wolverines had the Warriors trailing by 19pts. The Wolverines were not satisfied with the 19 point lead. They continued to push forward and gain the largest lead of 27pts. Indiana Tech was able to close the gap by a few points but Michigan's stellar defense would not allow the Warriors to make their way back. Solid defense and a productive offence led to a 71-53 conference victory for the Wolverines over Indiana Tech.

This Saturday, February 21 at 3:00pm mens basketball will travel to Concordia University to fight for a Conference win.
