Men?s Basketball Struggles with Aquinas

Grand Rapid, MI- Aquinas performed better percentages causing Michigan Dearborn's men's basketball team to come home with a 40-74 loss. Michigan shot 31.0% from the field, whereas, Aquinas shot 52.2%. The Wolverines went to the free throw line 17 times, making only 8 of them. Aquinas went to the line 24 times and made 17. Dearborn's leaders were: Darryl Jr. Mobley with 11 points, Khalil Beldoun with 5 rebounds and Jamiel Strickland with 2 assists.

The game was opened up by Jason Penn making a defensive rebound, giving the ball to Strickland in the paint and giving Michigan the first points of the game. Kevin Grant from Aquinas turned the game around by answering with a three pointer to take the lead. With 17:01 on the board Strickland tied the game 5-5 by shooting a three pointer. After Strickland's shot to tie the game Aquinas took control of the first half with Dearborn chasing by 8 (27-35) at halftime. Strickland led Michigan with ten points and two assists. Khalil Beldoun, Paul Standyke and Brandon Cole each lead the team with two rebounds.

In the second half, Michigan came out scoring first narrowing the deficit to six but then Aquinas took control of the board once again. Michigan Dearborn went from trailing six to trailing nineteen in 6 minutes and 42 seconds. The score deficit grew for Michigan Dearborn giving Aquinas their largest lead of 37 points. Aquinas took the conference win (40-74) over Michigan Dearborn.

The men's basketball team will compete this Saturday, January 10 against Madonna University with the home court advantage.
