The Second Half Gets Away from Dearborn

Dearborn, MI- Cornerstone generated momentum over the Wolverines in the second half that lead to a Cornerstone victory. The men's game had been delayed due to a power outage at the end of the women's game. Michigan started the game strong by shooting well and playing defense but after the half, Cornerstone came out strong giving the Wolverine's a 55-87 loss. As a team Michigan shot 60% from the free throw line and had three blocks. Jason Penn and Jamiel Strickland combined for 31 points to lead the Wolverines.

Michigan borrowed some energy from the power outage at the start of the game. The Wolverines were making shots and were rebounding on both ends of the court. Cornerstone fought back to tie the game for the first time. Cornerstone made a defensive foul allowing the Wolverines to step to the line. Shots were being made by both teams throughout the game resulting in eleven lead changes. With 4:18 left on the clock the Wolverines fell behind by two points and finished the half trailing by 6 points (Halftime Score 35-41). As a team the Wolverines had out shot Cornerstone from every spot on the court. Michigan shot 4/6 from behind the arch and 56% from the field. Although Michigan had better shooting percentages, Cornerstone put up 19 more shots and had 6 less turnovers than the Wolverines. At the half Michigan's leader was Penn with 12 points. Penn had gone 4/4 from the field, 4/5 from the free throw line and had 3 blocks.

Cornerstone took the small lead that they had from the half and continued to tack points on. Michigan continued to shoot the ball but found it difficult to gain points. The Wolverines shot 0/6 from behind the arch and only 6/23 from the field. Cornerstone used Michigan's missed shots to their advantage by making 25 defensive rebounds and eliminating the Wolverines second chance. Cornerstone gained the power to take the 87-55 conference win.

Men's basketball will play at Marygrove on Saturday, 24 January at 3:00pm.
