The First Half Keeps the Wolverines From Taking the Win

Fort Wayne, IN- Men's basketball tried to bring home another conference win but fell a few points short to Indianan Tech. The Wolverines were outscored in the first half by 17 points, but turned it around in the second half and generated 14 more points than Indiana. From the paint the Wolverines scored 34 and held Indiana to 20. Michigan's leaders were Jason Penn with 16 points, Darryl Mobley with 15pts and Jamiel Strickland with 13points.

The key factor to Indiana Tech's win was the first eleven minutes of the game in which they busted open the game by going on a 15-0 run. Michigan started from the bottom and had to work their way back up to close the gap between scores. The Wolverines started with Mobley making a defensive rebound and sending the ball to Penn for a layup. Even though the Wolverines were trailing by a few points, both teams were now making baskets. Indiana had two players; Franklin and Chester, which generated 30pts combined for the Warriors. Michigan's leaders were Strickland with 5points along with Penn and Standtke who each had 4. The wolverines entered the half trailing by 17 and a score of (20-37).

With 18:19 left on the clock, Indiana had their largest lead of 20pt, however, the Wolverines never let them get out of their reach. One shot at a time Dearborn began closing the gap. Strickland shot a three pointer and drained it with 3:57 left on the clock, making it a 5 point game. The Wolverines held Indiana and gained another 2 points with 48 seconds left in the game. Franklin for Indiana missed a three pointer and Mobley made a defensive rebound allowing the Wolverines to take a time out. After the time out Dearborn had Strickland take one last shot. Indiana Tech took the 64-67 conference win.

Men's basketball will next compete this Saturday, January 17 against Davenport University with the home court advantage at 3:00pm.
