Strickland Scores 1,000th Career Point in Win

Detroit, MI - Senior Jamiel Strickland will remember the Wolverines 84-74 victory over the Marygrove Mustangs for the rest of his life. With 1:51 remaining in the second half Strickland scored on a lay-up giving him 1,000 career collegiate points. Strickland's 20 points led Michigan-Dearborn (7-14, 4-10), while sophomore Gage Throgmorton chipped in with 16 points. Freshman Jason Penn had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

The Wolverines never trailed in the game building a 17 point lead in the first half. Marygrove cut the lead to three points with just over seven minutes left in the game. Strickland then made a three-pointer and then a lay-up in which he got fouled. He would make the free throw giving the Wolverines a nine point lead in which they would not relinquish. Strickland's 1,000th career point was also Michigan-Dearborn's last basket of the game. Four different Michigan-Dearborn players would make free throws in the final two minutes to seal the victory.

Strickland is the first Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball player to reach 1,000 points since Chris Shepard, who scored his 1,000th career point during his senior season of 2006-07. The men's basketball team will head on the road to Lima, Ohio on Wednesday, January 28th to take on the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers at 7:30pm.
