Men's Basketball Falls to Grace Bible 76-73

Dearborn, MI - The men's basketball team started out strong against the visiting Grace Bible Tigers, but a strong finish to the first half by the Tigers proved to be just what they needed. Early on the Wolverines were making baskets and coming up with defensive stops en route to a 21-9 lead capped by freshman Jason Penn's steal and then a two-point basket by sophomore Brandon Cole with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Grace Bible would then start making shots as they ended the half on a 22-13 run to pull within three points at 34-31.

The Tigers continued their first half momentum by scoring the half's first 12 points to take a 43-34 lead just over four minutes into the second half. Grace Bible would maintain a seven to nine point until the halfway mark of the second half. That's when the Wolverines went a 7-0 run with senior Jamiel Strickland scoring four of those points and adding a steal which led to a Jason Penn basket pulling Michigan-Dearborn within one point. Grace Bible eventually built the lead back up to seven points with with just under five minutes left. Junior Darryl Mobley Jr. made three 3-pointers in a three minute span with the last coming with just over a minute to play to pull the Wolverines within one point. Two free throws for Grace Bible and two late three point attempts that did not go in for Michigan-Dearborn gave Grace Bible the 76-73 win.

Cole and Mobley Jr. led the Wolverines scoring 15 points a piece, while junior Paul Standtke had 13 rebounds in the loss. The men's basketball team will not have much time to think about this game as they prepare to host Rochester College on Wednesday, November 12th at 7:30pm.
