WOLVERINES WIN FOR THIRD TIME IN THREE DAYS, TOPPING LTU

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The No. 7 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team completed a perfect weekend, winning three games in three days. The Wolverines concluded the stretch with a second win over Lawrence Tech Saturday at the Southfield Sports Arena in Southfield, Mich.

For the third straight game, the Wolverines scored four times in the second period to pull away for a win, topping the Blue Devils 5-1 to move to 4-1 overall and 2-0 against teams from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

The Wolverines got an early goal from Tyler Groat (JR/Wyandotte, MI) on assists from Marcus McSweeney (SR/Chandler, Ariz.) and Andrew Spiegel (JR/Riverview, MI) to put UM-Dearborn up 1-0 just over five minutes into the contest. Michael Hodgson (FR/Trenton, MI) scored the first goal of his Wolverine career just 46 seconds into the second, with McSweeney and Groat picking up the helpers. Zach Nichols (SO/Dearborn, MI) followed with his first career goal less than two minutes later on an assist from Justin Berezinski (FR/Lansing, MI).

Justin Dunn (SO/Trenton, MI) continued his hot start to the season, scoring his fifth goal in five games at the 11:44 mark of the second, with Nic LaBurn (JR/Northville, MI) and Groat getting the assists. After being forced out of the lineup last year with an injury, Tyler Dalton (JR/Northfield, OH) got his first goal since his return, unassisted to cap off the Wolverine scoring for the night.

Lawrence Tech spoiled the shutout early in the third period as Wolverine netminder Jordan Gilbert (FR/Grosse Ile, MI) got the win in his first career start, stopping 29 of 30 shots faced. UM-Dearborn finished with 45 total shots.

UM-Dearborn opens the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League schedule with a pair of games at Kent State University starting at 7:30 pm Friday in Kent, Ohio.
