Wolverines fall to Buffaloes at ACHA Nationals

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The 2017-18 season came to an end for the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team in the round of 16 of the ACHA Division I National Tournament Saturday in Columbus, Ohio.

The No. 8 seed Wolverines took the lead with the first goal of the game, but No. 9 University of Colorado recorded the next seven goals and held on to top UM-Dearborn 7-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The season ends for the Wolverines with a record of 25-6-2 overall.

Junior Tyler Groat (JR/Wyandotte, MI) got the Wolverines on the board in the first period with a power play goal at 18:48 on assists from Kevin Bechard (JR/Trenton, MI) and Justin Dunn (SO/Trenton, MI). The lead did not hold long, as the Buffaloes answered just 12 seconds later to make it 1-1 after the first period.

Colorado scored two in the second and the first four of the third to make it 7-1. Senior Andrew Palushaj (SR/Livonia, MI) got UM-Dearborn on the board with a goal 16:53 into the third on assists from Kyle Schnettler (SO/Metamora, Mich.) and Silas Johnson (FR/Calgary, Alberta, Canada).

Thomas Proudlock (JR/Southgate, MI) made 31 saves in the loss for the Wolverines. UM-Dearborn was outshot 37-27.
