Missouri State takes shootout over Wolverines on Homecoming

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team hosted Missouri State University on Homecoming in a nonconference contest Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The Wolverines battled back from a 1-0 deficit to tie the game in the third period. After the score remained 1-1 through regulation and the overtime period, UM-Dearborn fell 2-0 in a shootout.

No. 20 Missouri State received goals in the shootout from Zane O'Bryan and Josh Bell, while Bears goaltender Bailey Stephens stopped both Wolverine attempts. He made 52 saves in regulation and overtime.

The game goes in the books as a 1-1 tie for the No. 8 Wolverines, moving the team to 7-1-2 on the season.

The Wolverines took control of the game in the third period as they finished with 18 shots. The tying goal came from Michael Hodgson (FR/Trenton, MI) six minutes into the third for his second of the season with Justin Berezinski (FR/Lansing, MI) receiving the lone assist.

In overtime, both teams went on the power play, but failed to capitalize. The Wolverines were 0-for-3 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill in the contest.

Thomas Proudlock (JR/Southgate, MI) stopped 30 shots for the Wolverines in net.

UM-Dearborn closes the weekend series with the Bears at 7:30 pm Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
