Wolverines win 7-1 over Oakland on Senior Night

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team celebrated the careers of three outstanding seniors with a win over Oakland University in a Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League showdown Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

UM-Dearborn scored the first four goals and added three more in the third period on its way to a 7-1 victory. The senior class of Marcus McSweeney (SR/Chandler, Ariz.), Mike Scarpello (SR/Plymouth, MI) and Andrew Palushaj (SR/Livonia, MI) were honored during the first intermission as they suited up on home ice for the last time.

UM-Dearborn improves to 20-4-2 on the season and 9-3-1 in the GLCHL.

Kevin Bechard (JR/Trenton, MI) got on the board first for the Wolverines on assists from Billy Brock (FR/Woodhaven, MI) and McSweeney. The Wolverines continued to control the game in the opening frame and scored three more goals. Brock continued his strong play since joining the team, as he recorded two goals and an assist in the opening period.

The Wolverines added three goals in the third period, the last from Tyler Groat (JR/Wyandotte, MI) to complete his four-point night. McSweeney recorded a team-high three assists. Thomas Proudlock (JR/Southgate, MI) stopped 23 shots for UM-Dearborn in the win.

The Wolverines complete the regular season against Oakland at 8 pm Saturday at the ONYX in Rochester, Mich.
