Cornerstone tops UM-Dearborn in WHAC match

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team fell to Cornerstone University, as the Golden Eagles took control in the second and third sets Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines held a late lead in the first set, but Cornerstone scored the final six points of the frame to win 25-21. The Golden Eagles closed out the match in three with set scores of 25-14 and 25-12 in the second and third, respectively.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 3-11 overall and 0-5 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Sophomore Gina Giacomini led the Wolverine offense with 11 kills, while sophomore Sabrina Giacomini finished with a team-high 14 assists. Senior Libero Caitlyn Carlson, who entered the night third in the WHAC in digs per set, recorded 14 digs and senior Erin Parrinello added 10 digs.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play at Indiana Tech at 7 pm Friday in Fort Wayne, Ind.
