Saints top Wolverines in three sets

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team hosted its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest of the season, taking on Siena Heights University on Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.

The Wolverines kept the score close in the first two sets, losing by a combined five points, before falling in three sets to the Saints. The set scores were 26-24, 25-22, 25-16.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 3-8 on the season and 0-2 in the WHAC.

SHU got off to a hot start, leading 18-7 in the first set. A rally from the Wolverines would eventually give them a 22-21 lead before the Saints prevailed. In the second set, UM-Dearborn started strong, taking an early 9-2 lead before the Saints fought back. With the teams tied at 22-22, SHU scored the next three points to close it out.

Leading the way offensively for the Wolverines was junior Bronte Michura with 13 kills followed by senior Erin Parrinello with 10. Junior Daniella Barile finished the game with 29 assists and Caitlyn Carlson recorded a team-high 17 digs.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play against Lourdes University at 7 pm Friday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
