Volleyball opens trip with sweep of Keiser

MARIETTA, Ga. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team headed south this week for five matches over three days at the Life University Running Eagle Classic in Marietta, Ga.

The Wolverines opened the event with a dominating three-set win over Keiser University (Fla.), 25-20, 25-21, 25-21, to move to 2-3 this season.

UM-Dearborn was strong at the net, finishing with 19 block assists as a team, led by senior Erin Parrinello with a team-high seven.

The Wolverine offense was well balanced, led by eight kills from Parrinello, while senior Katherine Nealy added seven. The freshman tandem of Mackenzie Fuleky and Mackenzie Zook recorded six kills each, as the Wolverines combined for a .247 hitting percentage.

Senior Libero Caitlyn Carlson led the defense with 22 digs, while Sabrina Giacomini added a team-high 11 assists. Fuleky recorded five block assists, to go along with four from Nealy.

The Wolverines continue play at the Running Eagle Classic, taking on Tennessee Wesleyan University at 10 am in the first of two matches Friday. UM-Dearborn faces host Life University at 2 pm.
