Second Period Surge Leads Wolverines over Cardinals

Dearborn, Mich. – After a three week layoff, the women's ice hockey team returned to action Thursday night hosting the Concordia University Cardinals.  The first period saw action at the both ends of the ice, but each goalie held firm.  Finally, with just over a minute remaining in the first period the Wolverines got on the board.  Junior Isabella Welke found the back of the net on the power play with senior Odisoula Argyris getting the assist.

Michigan-Dearborn took that momentum into the start of the second period with two quick goals just 43 seconds apart.  Junior Kaylee Keledjian scored the first of three goals in the period with senior Brooke Speigel getting the lone assist.  Just 43 seconds later, freshman Erin Murphy gave the Wolverines a 3-0 lead.  Sophomore Riley Vandenheuvel assisted on Murphy's goal.  Senior Claudia Maguire completed the scoring in the second period with junior Clare Murphy getting the assist.

Clare Murphy completed the scoring with a goal with 7:29 remaining the game with Welke and Maguire assisting on the game's final goal.  Junior Victoria Hahn recorded the shutout making 26 saves as the Wolverines outshot the Cardinals 38-26 and the team improved to 4-3-1 on the season.  The women's ice hockey team stays home on Friday night to take on the Grand Valley State Lakers at 7:00pm.
