Wolverines fall to Warriors in weekend-series sweep

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team returned to action with a home-and-home weekend series against the Indiana Tech Warriors in Fort Wayne, Ind. Friday night and Dearborn Mich. on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines found themselves down one after a closely contested first period as Indiana Tech's Megan Yakiwchuk opened up the scoring at 17:58 on the power play with the assist going to Brooklynn Moore. The Warriors would control the play in the second, padding their lead by adding two more goals. Indiana Tech would put the game out of reach with a pair of goals from Dakota Bowler in the third, handing the Wolverines a 5-0 defeat in the opening game of the weekend series. 

Victoria Hahn got the start in the losing effort making 26 saves in the game. 

The two teams picked the series back up the following afternoon, with the Warrior offense firing 16 shots at Hahn in the opening period. Indiana Tech would connect on the power play late in the first, then strike again just 22 seconds later to push its lead to two.

UM-Dearborn would respond 37 seconds later as Lexi Garbacik found the back of the net with the lone assist going to Cassidy Waugh. The Warriors would go back up by two early in the second. However, the Wolverines would cut the lead in half again as Kaylee Keledjian fooled the Indiana Tech goaltender with a shot from the neutral zone.  However, the Warriors would add three more goals the rest of the game, pulling away from UM-Dearborn, handing them a 6-2 defeat.

Hahn got the start for the second straight night and played strong making 38 saves for the Wolverines.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 6-5-2 overall and 4-5-2 in conference play.

The Wolverines return to action against the Adrian College Bulldogs on Thursday night at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
