DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's hockey team returned to action by playing host to the Michigan State Spartans Friday night at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich. on Senior Night.

After the conclusion of the first period, the University of Michigan-Dearborn honored the 2022 Seniors Leigh Farquhar, assistant captain Odisoula Argyris, and captain Brooke Spiegel for their hard work and dedication that they all put in during their time with the women's ice hockey program.

The contest between the Wolverines and Spartans had extra meaning added to it Friday night with the winning club moving on to the CCWHA playoffs. MSU would just out to an early lead and find itself up two after the first period. However, UM-Dearborn would claw back to tie the game just one minute into the third period. The Spartans would get the net two goals to pull away, despite a late Wolverine power-play tally, handing UM-Dearborn the 5-4 defeat.

Victoria Hahn would take the loss in goal for UM-Dearborn, closing out a strong season for the junior goaltender, making 23 saves in the game.

After falling down one early, Leigh Farquhar would tie the game on the power-play with Lexi Garbacik and Kaylee Keledjian getting the assists. UM-Dearborn would find themselves down two before Garbacik would connect off of a Cassidy Waugh pass to get the deficit to one. Farquhar would add her second of the night from Brooke Spiegel to tie the game 3-3 early in the final frame. The Spartans would connect on the power-play with under 12 minutes to play to re-take the lead. The Wolverines would get a late power-play opportunity down by a goal and would pull Hahn, giving UM-Dearborn a 6 on 4 advantage, yet MSU would connect on the empty net to push the lead to two. Odisoula Argyris would trim the lead back to one in the final minute of play, connecting on the power-play with Waugh and Riley Vandenheuvel getting the assists. Despite a last-ditch effort by the Wolverines, the Spartans would hold on for the win and advance to the CCWHA playoffs.

The Wolverines finish the 2021-22 season 11-7-2 overall and 6-6-2 in CCWHA play.
