Walser and Cole Shine in 2-1 Victory Over IUE

CENTERVILLE, Ind.-- Xavier Walser and Christian Cole connected on a pair of goals for the University of Michigan-Dearborn (2-2) men's soccer team. The connection helped the Wolverines take down Indiana University East 2-1 on Wednesday (Sept 7).

Inside the First Half

The Maize & Blue created the first chance as the IUE keeper stopped Andrew Schwartz's shot in the 14th minute. Much of the half was spent in transition as both teams combined for 13 first-half shots. The Wolverines were the first to take advantage of their opportunities as Xavier Walser accepted the Christian Cole pass and deposited it past the IUE keeper. Walser's goal in the 27th minute opened his account for the year and gave the Wolverines the early lead.

IUE would equalize right before the half as the Redwolves scored off a corner kick in the 39th minute.

Inside the Second Half

After the break, the Wolverines would not take long to retake the lead. After an IUE foul in the attacking third, Cole, whos no stranger to scoring chances, calmly took the Walser pass and beat the Redwolve keeper to regain the lead for the Wolverines. Elijah Burlak made two critical saves in the second half to keep the Wolverine lead and preserve the victory for the Maize & Blue.
