ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn lacrosse team came up short in a second-half comeback against Concordia University in a Wolverines-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Wolverines trailed by just three goals early in the fourth before the Cardinals regained control, defeating UM-Dearborn 15-10. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the WHAC heading into the final game of the regular season.
After falling behind 8-2 early in the third, UM-Dearborn began to gain momentum, scoring three straight and six of the next nine goals. Devon Callaghan's fourth of the game made it 11-8 early in the final frame.
Callaghan and Justin Brodzik finished with four goals each, leading UM-Dearborn's offense. Ben Phillips added a goal and an assist, and Adam Ranck recorded a goal. In net, Jay Rupnow made 17 saves as the Cardinals led in shots 65-39.
The Wolverines won 22-of-29 faceoffs, all taken by faceoff specialist Dillon Beal, but lost the groundball battle 35-34.
UM-Dearborn returns to action for its regular season finale against Lourdes University at 2 pm Saturday at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse in Beverly Hills, Mich., on Senior Day. The Wolverines will honor four senior student-athletes prior to the opening faceoff.
