Wolverines fall to Taylor in WHAC matchup

UPLAND, Ind. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team made a fourth-quarter comeback but could not overcome a six-goal deficit in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference loss to Taylor University Saturday in Upland, Ind.

The Wolverines outshot the Trojans 53-39, but Taylor scored five unanswered goals from the end of the first half to the start of the second half and held off UM-Dearborn late for a 14-12 win.

The loss drops the Wolverines to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the WHAC.

Adam Ranck scored with under four minutes to play in the third and added two more in the fourth to finish with three goals and lead UM-Dearborn back late.

Devon Callaghan, who scored his 100th-career goal in UM-Dearborn's game on Wednesday and was named the NAIA and WHAC Player of the Week, led the Wolverines against Taylor with five goals and two assists. Micah Rinke and Justin Brodzik each added two goals and an assist.

Reigning NAIA and WHAC Defensive Player of the Week Dillon Beal won 16-of-30 faceoffs for the Wolverines while recording a team-high 13 ground balls. Jay Rupnow made six saves and added four ground balls in the net.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play against Lawrence Tech at 5 pm Wednesday at Farmington Hills Harrison High School.
