Rupnow makes 22 saves in UM-Dearborn loss

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn lacrosse team opened its 2019 road schedule, taking on Benedictine College in the first of two games hosted by Columbia College Friday in Columbia, Mo.

The Wolverines fell behind early and were unable to battle back in a 14-9 loss to the Ravens, who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 10 Poll. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 0-3 on the season.

After an early goal from Micah Rinke gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead, the Ravens answered back with two. Ben Phillips responded for UM-Dearborn to tie the game at 2-2, before Benedictine close the first quarter. The Ravens outscored the Wolverines 6-2 in the second to take control of the contest.

Rinke and Phillips led offensively for UM-Dearborn, scoring three goals each. Adam Ranck added two goals, while Justin Brodzik also found the net for a goal.

In his first start in net for the Wolverines, freshman Jay Rupnow made 22 saves. 

The Ravens led in groundballs 30-26, while outshooting the Wolverines 52-27.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against Columbia College at 3 pm tomorrow in Columbia, Mo.
