Four Wolverines named to All-WHAC Baseball

DEARBORN, Mich. – University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball had a tremendous 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season, staying in the postseason race until the final day. The Wolverines earned praise for their performance in a second season that saw the team lead the WHAC in hitting.

The WHAC Postseason awards were announced on Wednesday with four Wolverines named to the all-conference teams. Senior Daniel Kerr, junior Ryan Beadle, and sophomore Andrew Capone were all named to the All-WHAC First Team, while junior Shaun Hannibal was named to the Second Team. All honors were firsts for each student-athlete and the program.

Kerr led the Wolverine lineup with a .411 batting average, one home run, 40 RBIs, 20 runs scored, nine doubles and 31 walks. He also held a .970 fielding percentage and threw out 19 of 42 potential base stealers from behind the plate.

After a torrid fall set him up for a great season, Beadle closed the WHAC schedule hitting .353 with four home runs, 40 RBIs, 32 runs scored and a .513 slugging percentage.  

Capone led the UM-Dearborn outfield in 2019, batting .348 with 55 hits, nine doubles, three triples, and a home run while driving in 30 runs from the lead-off spot. He stole seven bases and walked 31 times. In the field, Capone carried a .981 fielding percentage while throwing out three runners.

Hannibal played in 43 games at shortstop, batting .347 with 11 doubles, one triple, two home runs, and 31 RBIs, while driving in 31 and scoring 41 times. He also stole eight bases.

Additional WHAC honors for UM-Dearborn included Beadle, Patrick Downing, Kerr, and Cole VanWagoner being named to the All-Academic Team, while Waymond Lemon Jr. was honored as the Champion of Character. 

The Wolverines will make up Senior Day against Rochester College in a single nine-inning game to start at 1 pm Saturday at Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Senior Day ceremony to honor Justin Marshall, Daniel Kerr, Lemon Jr., and Nick Montroy will start at 12:35 pm.
