Season ends for Baseball in split at Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn dropped a heartbreaker in game two of a doubleheader against Rochester College on Saturday in Rochester Hills, Mich.

After taking game one 11-7, the Wolverines led the finale 6-2 heading to the bottom of the eighth. The Warriors rallied with three in the eighth in and two in the ninth to top UM-Dearborn 7-6 in the regular season finale for both teams. The loss eliminates UM-Dearborn from the race for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament bid.

The season ends for the second-year Wolverines with a record of 18-24-1 overall and 11-11 in the WHAC.

In game one, UM-Dearborn led 6-0 in the fourth and added five runs in the seventh to hold off a Rochester comeback. Daniel Kerr, playing in his final games with the Wolverines, put UM-Dearborn up six in the fourth with a two-run double.

After Rochester cut the Wolverine lead to 6-4, Justin Dolney, Patrick Downing, and Jacob Leija each picked up an RBI in the seventh before a two-run double from Andrew Capone.

Garrett Davis got the win on the mound, allowing four runs on three hits while walking five and striking out five in 5.1 innings. Capone, Shaun Hannibal, Kerr, Antonio Carta, and Dolney each finished with two hits.

UM-Dearborn led game two 3-1 after a Jon Quintal two-run single in the second and added a run on a triple from Kerr in the fourth. The Warriors won the game on a walk-off home run from Bruce Kudela.

Tyler Troyer had a strong outing on the mound for UM-Dearborn, allowing two runs, one earned on five hits, while striking out three. Tanner Hodges took the loss with one inning of relief. Kerr and Quintal each finished with two hits.
