UM-Dearborn scores 25 in sweep at Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team rallied late in game one and cruised to the sweep with a convincing win in game two in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader against Aquinas College Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Wolverines trailed 5-2 heading to the ninth inning of game one but scored nine times in the inning to take the opener 11-5. UM-Dearborn recorded five extra-base hits, including a Ryan Beadle home run a 14-2 victory in seven innings in game two.

The sweep pushes UM-Dearborn's win streak to four, moving the Wolverines to 15-14-1 overall and 8-2 in the WHAC.

The game one, ninth inning for the Wolverines got going with a run scored on an error by Aquinas, followed by an RBI single from Beadle to cut the Saint lead to one. Jacob Leija singled home a run to tie the game, followed by back-to-back RBI walks by Waymond Lemon Jr. and Andrew Capone to give UM-Dearborn the lead. 

The Wolverines pulled away with an RBI single from Shaun Hannibal and a two-run single from Daniel Kerr. Hannibal and Patrick Downing each finished with three hits, while Kerr, Beadle, Leija and Antonio Carta each added two.

Malcolm Harris got the start on the mound, pitching five innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits. Jack Hook (2-1) earned the win in relief.

UM-Dearborn jumped out early in game two and scored the last 11 runs of the game to complete the sweep.

Hannibal got UM-Dearborn started with a three-run double in the second, while Capone added an RBI double in the fourth. Beadle helped the Wolverines pull away with a two-run home run in the fifth.

Beadle finished with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored, while Daniel Kerr added two hits. Ramiro Rodriguez (1-0) got the win on the mound with six innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out seven.

UM-Dearborn continues WHAC play against Lourdes University at noon Sunday at Mercy Field in Toledo, Ohio.
