UM-Dearborn concludes fall with split at Spring Arbor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team concluded the fall portion of the 2018-19 schedule with a doubleheader at Spring Arbor University Friday in Spring Arbor, Mich.

Spring Arbor jumped out to an early lead in game one and topped the Wolverines 9-1. In the finale, UM-Dearborn earned a split with a 9-3 victory in six innings, as the game was called due to darkness.

The split moves UM-Dearborn to 5-2-1 on the season. The UM-Dearborn doubleheader scheduled against Bethel College for Saturday has been canceled due to forecasted inclement weather in the area.

The Wolverines finished with six hits in the opener, with Cole VanWagoner going 2-for-3, while Justin Dolney added a double. John Dyda took the loss on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings, striking out five.

Tanner Hodges led the way for the Wolverines in game two with two hits, including his first home run as a Wolverine, while adding two RBIs. Jacob Leija added three hits, while Shaun Hannibal recorded two, including a double.

Dan Bos earned the win on the mound, going three innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking four and striking out two.

The Wolverines will resume the season in March with their spring trip to Florida. Details on the UM-Dearborn schedule for Florida will be available at a later date.
