Wolverines open 2018-19 season against UNOH

NOVI, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team opened the fall portion of the 2018-19 schedule against perennial Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference powerhouse and 2018 NAIA World Series qualifier, the University of Northwestern Ohio in a nonconference doubleheader Friday at Novi High School in Novi, Mich.

The Racers controlled game one with the long ball, hitting six home runs en route to a 19-1 win in seven innings. The Wolverines did not back down from UNOH in the finale, as the teams battled through a back-and-forth contest.

Game two was suspended in the top of the 10th inning with the Racers leading 16-13. The game will resume at a later date. Statistics for the game are not official until the contest is concluded.

In the opener, UM-Dearborn finished with one run on six hits and committed three errors. Waymond Lemon Jr. picked up the lone RBI for the Wolverines driving home Patrick Downing. The loss went to starter John Dyda, who allowed seven runs, six earned on six hits while walking two and striking out seven.

In game two, the Wolverines flexed their muscle at the plate with a team-record 17 hits and 13 runs, including a pair of home runs from Ryan Beadle, who is 4-for-5 with four RBIs and four runs scored in the suspended game. Lemon Jr. has three hits and three RBIs, while Daniel Kerr is 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

UM-Dearborn is officially 0-1 heading into a nonconference doubleheader with Rochester College at 1 pm Sunday in Rochester Hills, Mich.
