Wolverines drop final three at Warner Invitational

AVON PARK, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team completed play at the Warner Invitational, playing three seven-inning games over two days, including a matchup against host Warner University in Avon Park, Fla.

The Wolverines dropped three low-scoring contest over the weekend, 3-1 to Mount Vernon Nazarene and 2-1 to Warner on Friday. On Saturday, UM-Dearborn faced conference foe Siena Heights University, falling 2-0 to drop to 7-9-1 on the season.

Against MVNU, The Wolverines trailed 1-0 before Antonio Carta recorded a single RBI in the fourth inning to tie the game. The Cougars added runs in the six and seventh inning to defeat UM-Dearborn 3-1

Dan Bos started for the Wolverines, pitching 4.1 innings and surrendering one run on five hits. Malcolm Harris took over on the mound and allowed two runs on three hits in 2.2 innings.

Justin Dolney's RBI single, the lone hit of the game for UM-Dearborn, gave the Wolverines an early 1-0 lead in the first inning against Warner. The Royals answered back late, with two runs in the sixth to take the win.

John Dyda held Warner to just one hit heading into the sixth inning before surrendered two runs on two hits. The sophomore recorded eight strikeouts.

Against the Saints, the game remained scoreless until the fourth inning, as Siena Heights recorded an RBI double to take a lead, before adding a run in the sixth.

The Wolverines finished with six hits, with Andrew Capone and Waymond Lemon Jr. leading the way with two each. Garrett Davis started on the mound, pitching all six innings for UM-Dearborn, recording four strikeouts, while surrendering five hits and two runs.

UM-Dearborn will travel to Wayne State University at 3 pm Wednesday, Mar. 20, in Detroit Mich.
