Wolverines split with (RV) Cardinals

NOVI, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team continued conference play, splitting a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader with Concordia University (RV) Sunday at Novi High School.

The Wolverines defeated the Cardinals 10-0 in the first game in seven innings to win its third straight, before falling 11-6 in game two to move to 10-11-1 on the season and 3-1 in the WHAC.

In the first game, UM-Dearborn started strong, scoring two runs in the first inning, followed by a five-run second inning. After a two-run double from Shaun Hannibal, Justin Dolney hit a three-run home run to break the game open.

Garrett Davis (2-2) picked up the win for the Wolverines, pitching a complete-game shutout. Davis tossed all seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out three.

In game two, UM-Dearborn and Concordia exchanged runs in the first inning. Concordia jumped out a quick 3-0 lead before Daniel Kerr tied the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the inning.

The Wolverines took a 6-4 lead into the top of the ninth, but Concordia recorded seven runs and closed out UM-Dearborn in the bottom of the ninth to earn the split.

Dan Bos started on the mound, pitching four innings and surrendering three runs. Nick Montroy took the loss in relief.

Kerr finished with two hits and four RBIs, while added three hits and two runs. Patrick Downing hit his first home run of the season in the eighth.

The Wolverines will step out of conference play for two seven-inning games against Cleary University at 2 pm on Tuesday in Howell, Mich.
