UM-Dearborn sweeps road series at Rochester

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team swept a nonconference doubleheader (two seven-inning games) against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference rival Rochester College Sunday in Rochester Hills, Mich.

The Wolverines scored five runs in the final two innings to rally for a 7-5 win in game one, while freshman Garrett Davis nearly pitched a complete game to lead UM-Dearborn to a 9-1 win in the finale. The wins push UM-Dearborn to 2-1 this season after the second game of a doubleheader on Friday was suspended due to darkness.

Down 5-2 heading to the sixth in game one, the Wolverine bats got going, starting with an RBI single from Justin Dolney. After Daniel Kerr walked to drive in a run, Ryan Beadle sent two home on a single to give the Wolverines the lead.

Cameron Tubbs got the start for the Wolverines on the mound, going four innings, allowing five runs, four earned on six hits while walking five and striking out one. Jack Hook (1-0) pitched a scoreless fifth inning in his debut and was credited with the win, while Tanner Hodges collected the save (1) with two innings of work in his first pitching appearance for UM-Dearborn.

Kerr, Dolney, and Beadle each finished with two hits, while Beadle recorded a team-high three RBIs. Cole VanWagoner finished with a double and two runs scored.

In game two, Davis (1-0) shined on the mound, going 6.2 innings, allowing one run on seven hits while walking two and striking out three. The appearance was his first as a Wolverine.

Beadle was once again hot at the plate, recording three more RBIs, finishing with a double and triple, along with two runs scored. Beadle had two home runs in the suspended game two on Friday (statistics from that game are not official until the contest is completed).

Dolney hit his first career home run as a part of a five-run seventh inning for the Wolverines. Dolney, Beadle and Waymond Lemon Jr. each finished with two hits in the win.

The Wolverines return home for a doubleheader against Bethel College at noon Saturday at Novi High School in Novi, Mich.
