UM-Dearborn rallies for 14-6 win over Judson

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – For the second straight day, the University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team rallied from an early deficit to earn a win at the RussMatt Invitational in  Auburndale, Fla.

The Wolverines trailed 5-0 after the second inning against Judson University on Sunday, but UM-Dearborn erupted for four runs in the third, fourth and seventh to cruise to a 14-6 win over the Eagles.

The win is the third straight for the Wolverines dating back to the fall and moves UM-Dearborn to 7-2-1 overall this season.

Daniel Kerr got the rally started for the Wolverines with a two-run single in the third followed by a two-run double from Ryan Beadle to cut a five-run deficit to one.

After Judson got one back in the bottom of the third, Kerr and Patrick Downing each drove home two in the fourth to give the Wolverines their first lead. UM-Dearborn scored the final 10 runs of the game to pull away.

Kerr led the Wolverines with four hits, six RBIs and four runs scored. Andrew Capone added three hits, including a double, and scored three runs. Downing added three hits and four RBIs, while Beadle added two doubles.

Nick Montroy (2-0) got the win in relief, tossing three innings, allowing two runs on one hit, striking out five and walking four.

The Wolverines finished with 14 runs on 17 hits and no errors.

UM-Dearborn opens a doubleheader against Grace College at 11 am Monday in Auburndale, Fla., followed by a nonconference matchup with Madonna University at 2:30 pm.
