Wolverines come from behind to clinch WHAC playoff berth

DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team returned to action against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils in the final WHAC match-up of the season.

At the conclusion of the match, the UM-Dearborn Athletic Department honored the hard-work and dedication of Gina and Sabrina Giacomini and everything they had accomplished in their four years with the volleyball program. 

The Wolverines had their eyes set on a WHAC playoff bid with a win against the Blue Devils, however found themselves down two sets. However, UM-Dearborn would battle back and take the final three sets 25-27, 22-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-13 to clinch the eighth-seed.

The Giacomini sisters were on full display in the contest, with Gina recording 26 kills and Sabrina adding 46 assists, both career-highs. 

Kristin Maust and Kielee Tondryk would add 11 and 9 kills, while Maust and Kenzie Mertz would add 17 and 16 kills, respectively. 

The Wolverines finish the 2021 season 8-23 overall and 6-14 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn returns to action in the opening-round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference playoffs against the Madonna University Crusaders at 3pm Wednesday in Livonia, Mich.
