Wolverines drop a pair of matches over the weekend

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team returned to action this past weekend with two WHAC matches, playing host to Siena Heights University on Friday night, then traveling to take on Lourdes University Saturday afternoon. 

On Friday night, the Wolverines would start fast in the opening set, scoring the first four points. However, the Saints would take control the rest of the match, earning a three-set sweep of UM-Dearborn 25-14, 25-18, 25-17. 

Leading the Wolverines against SHU was Kristin Maust with a match-high 10 kills, while Kielee Tondryk would add seven of her own. Sabrina Giacomini would record 17 assists, while Kenzie Mertz finished with 19 digs.

SHU was led by Janel Ruhlman with nine kills. Aubrey Bates would record 29 assists, while Payton Osborne added 22 digs, both match-highs.

On Saturday afternoon, UM-Dearborn traveled to Sylvania, Ohio to take on the Lourdes University Gray Wolves. 

Despite the Wolverines getting within two late in the first set, the Gray Wolves pulled away and wouldn't look back, controlling the final two sets for the sweep of UM-Dearborn 25-19, 25-10, 25-14.

The Wolverines were led by Maust and Regan Sliwinski with eight and seven kills, respectively. Regan Rose would record 14 assist in the match, while Amanda Wilyard would add eight digs. 

Leading Lourdes was Abby Gentile with 15 kills. Katey Stakolich recorded 31 assists, while Alli Plasencio added 10 digs, all match-highs.

The two losses drops UM-Dearborn to 6-19 overall and 3-10 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines return to action against the Rochester University Warriors at 7pm Wednesday, October 20th at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
