Wolverines drop back-to-back WHAC contests

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team returned to action with a pair of WHAC matches, playing host to the Cornerstone Golden Eagles Wednesday night, and on the road Friday night against the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers.

UM-Dearborn would play strong, splitting the first two sets with Cornerstone. However, the Golden Eagles would control the final two sets, as the Wolverine offense would stall, falling by a score of 25-18, 23-25, 11-25, 16-25.

Leading the Wolverines was Kristin Maust and Regan Sliwinski, both recording 11 kills, while Brooke Wetherill would add nine of her own. Sabrina Giacomini had another strong performance, adding 32 assists, while Kenzie Mertz had 21 a match-high digs. 

Cornerstone was led by Olivia Keelan and Rylie Walters with 17 kills and 16 kills, respectively. 

UM-Dearborn looked to bounce back Friday night against the University of Northwestern Ohio, taking two of the first three sets. However, the Racers would take the final two sets, handing the Wolverines the loss 20-25, 25-23, 25-12, 21-25, 11-15. 

The two losses drop UM-Dearborn to 8-21 overall and 5-12 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines were led by Gina Giacomini, who was tied for the match-high in kills with 14 and Maust would add 12 kills.

Sliwinski would add 10 kills of her own, along with four solo blocks, while Mertz added 21 digs for UM-Dearborn. Sabrina Giacomini would pile up the assists once again, adding 32 for a match-high.

UNOH was led by Hope Fetherolf and Nevaeh Shugart with 14 and 11 kills, respectively. 

The Wolverines return to action against the Indiana Tech Warriors at 3pm Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind.
