Wolverines drop a pair to Tennessee Wesleyan and Cumberlands

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team hit the road for its spring trip with a pair of non-conference matchups against Tennessee Wesleyan in Athens, Ten., and Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.

The Bulldogs would jump out to establish a three-goal lead, however, the Wolverines would trim the lead down to one. Tennessee Wesleyan would go on to score six unanswered goals, never looking back in the game as it handed UM-Dearborn the 16-5 defeat.

The Wolverines were led by Nolan Kelley with three goals, while Joseph Atherall and Parker Steindl would each add one.

Leading the Bulldogs was Robert Holekamp with four goals and two assists in the game.

Jack Meyers took the loss in goal for UM-Dearborn, making 14 saves. Jay Rupnow would play the fourth quarter in relief, making two saves.

The Wolverines looked to bounce back against Cumberlands, but would find themselves down two after the first quarter. The Patriots would control the play, scoring the next five goals, as they built a six-goal lead heading into the fourth. Cumberlands would ice the game, outscoring the Wolverines by four in the final frame, handing UM-Dearborn a 15-5 defeat.

Leading the Wolverines was Kelley with two goals, Bryce Washington with a goal and three assists, while Ryan Savage and Connor Logan would each add a goal.

The Patriots were led by Christian Vanover with four goals and two assists.

Jay Rupnow would take the loss in goal for UM-Dearborn, making 16 saves in the game.

The two losses drop the Wolverines to 0-4 overall on the season.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against the Missouri Baptist University Spartans at 8 PM Thursday at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse in Beverley Hills, Mich.
