Saints build big lead, hand Wolverines loss in WHAC opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team opened up the 2022 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season by taking on the Aquinas College Saints on the road Monday afternoon at the AQ Athletic Field in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Wolverines found themselves down just two after the first quarter, however, the Saints would outscore UM-Dearborn by eight goals over the next two quarters, handing the Wolverines a 17-7 defeat.

Leading the way for UM-Dearborn was Nolan Kelley with three goals, while Cameron Godin would add two of his own. Brodie Mahmud and Joseph Atherall would each find the back of the net once.

The setback drops the Wolverines to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.

Jay Rupnow would take the loss, making eight saves in 41 minutes of action, while Jack Meyers would close out the game with three saves.

UM-Dearborn returns to action against the Madonna University Crusaders at 7 pm Wednesday at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse in Beverly Hills, Mich.
