Kalamazoo tops UM-Dearborn 16-12

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team hosted Kalamazoo College, an NCAA DIII program, Saturday at the Detroit Country Day Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines and Hornets went back and forth in a close battle before Kalamazoo closed the third quarter with four straight goals to pull away. A late UM-Dearborn rally fell short as the Hornets escaped with a 16-12 win.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 0-2 on the season.

Adam Ranck and Mason Loudermilk each scored three goals for the Wolverines, who outshot Kalamazoo 53-40. Parker Steindl and Connor Logan each scored two goals, while Nolan Kelley and Justin Brodzik found the net once. Kelley finished with a team-high four assists and Quest Bigelow added two.

Jon Chaffee made 12 saves in net for the Wolverines.

UM-Dearborn trailed the ground-ball battle 34-33 while converting on 27-of-34 clear attempts. Loudermilk recorded a team-high seven ground balls for the Wolverines.

Kalamazoo was led by five goals from Dylan McGorisk.

UM-Dearborn is off until the end of the month until the team travels south to play three games in Savannah, Ga., starting against Point University on Feb. 29.
