Phillips scores 8, Wolverines top Point 26-5

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team opened the team's 2020 Spring Break trip to Savannah, Ga., with a dominating win over Point University on Saturday.

The Wolverines scored the first nine goals of the game to take control on their way to a 26-5 victory. The win is the first of the season for UM-Dearborn, which moves to 1-2 on the season.

Ben Phillips had a career day for the Wolverines, scoring the first two goals of the contest on his way to a career-high eight goals, to go along with three assists. Freshman Nolan Kelley broke out with five goals and two assists, while Adam Ranck added four goals and an assist.

Parker Steindl, Micah Rinke and Justin Brodzik each scored two goals from the midfield, while Cameron Godin, Mason Loudermilk and Joseph Atherall added one goal each. Quest Bigelow finished with three assists.

Liam Turner got his first start of the season and made seven saves in net in the win for the Wolverines.

UM-Dearborn was a perfect 16-of-16 on clears, while winning 22-of-35 face offs. The Wolverines led shots 58-21 and ground balls 40-26.

UM-Dearborn continues its trip against St. Andrews University at 1 pm Sunday in Savannah, Ga.
