Men's Ice Hockey top No. 9 Eagles in series opener

BENSENVILLE, Ill. – The No. 12 University of Michigan-Dearborn men's hockey team continued its season on the road against the No. 9 Robert Morris University Eagles on Friday at The Edge Ice Arena.

After falling behind by one goal, UM-Dearborn scored four of the next five goals, including an empty-netter, to defeat the Eagles 4-2. The Wolverines improve to 2-1-0 on the season.

An early shorthanded goal put the Wolverines behind 1-0 after the first period. In the second, Kevin Bechard answered back to tie things up at one on assists from Tyler Groat and Justin Dunn. The Wolverines would add one more goal late in the second period and another early in the third period, both from Groat, to take a 3-1 lead.

After the Eagles scored to make it a one goal game, Billy Brock added an empty-netter to put the game out of reach.

Groat led the way offensively with two goals and an assist while Brock added one goal and three assists.

Thomas Proudlock made 30 saves as the Wolverines outshot RMU 36-32.

The Wolverines return to action against the Eagles at 7:30 pm Saturday at The Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville, Ill.
