Wolverines fall to Warriors in series finale

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's hockey team concluded season-opening weekend series with Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference rival Indiana Tech Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Warriors scored three times in the third period, including the go-ahead goal with under three minutes remaining in regulation to defeat the Wolverines 5-3. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 1-1-0 on the season and in the WHAC.

Tyler Groat got the scoring started as his first goal of the season put the Wolverines ahead 1-0 just over eight minutes into the contest. The Warriors answered back with two goals before the first intermission.

In the second period, UM-Dearborn regained the lead off a goal from Joseph Crump, his first as a Wolverine, and a shorthanded tally from Tyler Dalton.

Similar to Friday's contest, the Warriors scored the last three, including an empty-net goal in the final minute to earn the weekend split with the Wolverines.

Thomas Proudlock made 36 saves for the second consecutive night as the Wolverines were outshot 41-29.

UM-Dearborn returns to action in nonconference play against Robert Morris University at 8 pm Friday in Chicago, Ill.
