DEARBORN, Mich. – Director of Athletics and Recreation Bryan Earl announced the hiring of Becky Sutton as the next leader of the women's basketball program on Thursday (May 8). Sutton comes to UM-Dearborn with over 20 years of experience in the college and high school ranks. Sutton recently led the Lansing Catholic girls basketball team to the 2023 MHSAA Division Two State Championship.
As a coach, Sutton has been involved in six NCAA Tournament appearances, one NCAA D3 Final Four/National Championship, eight MHSAA District Championships, three MHSAA Regional Championships, two MHSAA state quarterfinal appearances, and two MHSAA State Championships.
Sutton served as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Hope College. During her time with the Dutchmen, she helped guide them to the 2006 NCAA Division III National Championship. That same year, Grand Valley State University won the NCAA Division II National Championship with players that Sutton recruited and developed during her time there.
Sutton was inducted into the Eaton Rapids Hall of Fame after being named All-State three times in basketball and soccer while attending Eaton Rapids High School. She was a four-year starter and three-year captain of the Hope College women's basketball team, where she led the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances and one Sweet Sixteen.
