Cuevas named WHAC Offensive Player of the Week

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team concluded a successful regular season last week, earning a bid to the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament for the second straight season with a 6-0 win over Rochester University.

The Wolverines were led against the Warriors by the offense of freshman forward Christian Cuevas, who scored a hat trick in the win. For his efforts, Cuevas was named the WHAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, it was announced Monday.

Cuevas scored all three of his goals in the first half, the first coming off a brilliant backheel deflection on a cross from Jack Barnett in the 11th minute. The three-goal effort tied the UM-Dearborn single-game record for goals and points in a game.

The Rockwood, Mich., native is tied with Barnett for the team lead in goals this season with six. He has 22 shots, with eight on goal in his first year with the Wolverines.

UM-Dearborn enters the WHAC Postseason Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will travel to No. 1 seed Indiana Tech for the first round at noon Saturday in Fort Wayne, Ind.
