Late Goal Lifts Wolverines to 2-1 win

RIVERVIEW, Mich. – Despite playing a man down for the majority of the match, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team earned a crucial Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win over Siena Heights University Wednesday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

Senior Jacob Drzyzga found the back of the net off of a pass from freshman Brendan Petz at the six-minute mark of the first half, giving the Wolverines an early lead. Siena Heights tied the game at one during the 27th off of a free-kick that was a result of a UM-Dearborn red card.

UM-Dearborn was able to generate several chances the rest of the way and in the 87th minute Christian Cuevas on the second assist in the game for Petz to lift the Wolverines to the 2-1 victory. The goal was the second of the season for Cuevas.

The win pushes the Wolverines to 3-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the WHAC.

Goalkeeper Brian Ostapenko made two saves in goal for UM-Dearborn and improved his record to 2-5-0. The Wolverines had the advantage in shots 19-8, and in corner kicks, 8-4.

The Wolverines return to action against Concordia University at 3 pm on Saturday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
