Wolverines fall on Senior Day to No. 18 Warriors

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team hosted 18th ranked Indiana Tech on Senior Day in the last regular-season Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

The Warriors opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game and added another goal in the opening minute of the second half, holding off a late Wolverine rally for a 4-2 win.

The loss drops the Wolverines to 5-9-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the WHAC putting them in a tie with Siena Heights University for the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference tournament. UM-Dearborn currently holds the tiebreaker between the two teams with a 2-1 win over the Saints in early October, and will enter the WHAC Tournament with the No. 8 seed. The Wolverines will travel to either Indiana Tech or the University of Northwestern Ohio for the first round of the tournament.

In a ceremony prior to the start of the game, UM-Dearborn honored the careers of seniors Luke Baker, Grant Baker, Jacob Drzyzga, and Deavyn Dishroon, who played in their final regular-season game for the Wolverines.

After finding themselves down by two goals early in the second half, UM-Dearborn got on the board thanks to Jack Barnett who scored his fifth goal of the season off a pass from Brendan Petz.

The Warriors responded 13 minutes later to regain their two-goal lead. Barnett came through again finding the back of the net for his sixth goal of the year with 10 minutes to play to cut the Indiana Tech lead back to one. Indiana Tech answered again and held on for the win.

Wolverine goalkeeper Brian Ostapenko made three saves in the game, two that were on back to back shots, keeping UM-Dearborn in the game.

The Wolverines were outshot 18-12, while Indiana Tech held the advantage in corner kicks, 2-0.

UM-Dearborn returns to action in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 9th, with the opponent, location, and time to be determined.
