UM-Dearborn falls in defensive battle with Huntington

RIVERVIEW, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team continued the nonconference portion of the 2019 schedule against (RV) Huntington University Saturday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

Despite the Foresters controlling much of the offense, the Wolverine defense was able to withstand the pressure, allowing just one goal off a set piece in the first half. UM-Dearborn had several opportunities for the equalizer in the second half but were unable to tie the score, falling to Huntington 1-0.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 1-2-0 overall this season.

The game's lone goal came off a short free kick in the 28th minute from Huntington's Caleb Sexton, who beat the UM-Dearborn wall for the goal.

Brian Ostapenko took the loss in net for UM-Dearborn but made several spectacular saves to keep the Wolverines in the game until the end. He finished with five saves and falls to 0-2-0 on the season. Christian Cuevas led the UM-Dearborn offense with three shots, including a pair of high-quality scoring chances in the second half.

The Wolverines return to action against Kalamazoo College at 7:30 pm Wednesday at Gabriel Richard High School.
