Scoring surge lifts Cleary past UM-Dearborn

RIVERVIEW, Mich.  – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team dropped a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup to Cleary University Saturday at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

After the Wolverines took an early lead in the first half, the Cougars scored four unanswered goals and held on for a 4-2 win. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 2-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the WHAC.

Jack Barnett opened the scoring for UM-Dearborn less than five minutes into the contest. Cleary evened the score in the 33rd minute to send it to the half tied at 1-1. The Cougars added three goals in less than five minutes midway through the second half, including two from David Tetaj.

The Wolverines cut the deficit to two with a penalty-kick goal from Christian Drzyzga in the 86th minute, the first of his career.

Cleary outshot UM-Dearborn 26-14, while Wolverine goalkeeper Brian Ostapenko made six saves in the loss.

The Wolverines remain home to host Siena Heights University at 7:30 pm Wednesday at Gabriel Richard High School.
